The annual Oyster River Energy Christmas Party was held once again at Duffy’s Tavern.  About 125 guests attended this year’s event, and thanks to our guests’ generosity, over 325 unwrapped toys were donated to the West Haven Community House, which provides services for over 175 children from low income families.  The groceries were donated to the West Haven Emergency Task Force, which provides non-perishable food items to families in need.  Oyster River President Ed Granfield was very pleased with this year’s event, “The generosity of our staff, families, friends and clients never ceases to amaze me!”

A special thanks of course goes out to Chris Walsh and his staff at Duffy’s for hosting another outstanding event.  In addition the staff at Oyster River Energy would like to thank the folks at W.H.E.A.T. and the W.H.C.H. for the outstanding work they do in the community.

Oyster River Energy President, Edward R. Granfield was honored by the West Haven High Football Alumni Association for his years of community service.  Granfield played football for the Westies (Class of 78) went on to college, upon his return to West Haven started Oyster River Petroleum.  He has volunteered his time on a number of city and community boards, commissions, and youth sports organizations while his company has funded over $150,000 in youth sponsorships in the area.  Granfield received the Edward L. Bennett Award for community service from alumni President, Dave Rettig with over 250 people in attendance.

Saturday, February 14th the Oyster River Energy staff sponsored and organized West Haven High School’s 3rd annual Veteran’s Appreciation Day at Bennett Rink.  Working with the rink management, the Penalty Box Club and the WHHS Hockey team, over $3000 was raised during their game with Hamden High School.  An estimated crowd of 800, including over 60 local military veterans attended.  Earlier that week, the hockey team visited the V.A. Hospital after practice, meeting and speaking with a number of veterans that are under long term V.A. care.  In their honor the West Haven players wore military style jerseys, and the emotional pre-game ceremony, managed by O.R.E. President Ed Granfield, featured the United States Coast Guard Honor Guard and Army National Guard’s 102nd unit band.

All sponsorship and personal donations solicited for this event went to V.A. Charters, a West Haven based 501-C3 charity, that takes wounded and disabled veterans on fishing trips out on Long Island Sound.  Last summer over 100 injured service men and women benefited from this endeavor.

A special thanks of course goes out to Chris Walsh and his staff at Duffy’s, Gary Williamson from “Trucks R Us” who donated the truck that delivered the goods, and the staff of W.H.E.A.T. and the W.H.C.C. for all of the good work they do.

Veteran’s Appreciation Day at Bennett Rink

Saturday, February 1st the Oyster River Energy staff sponsored and organized West Haven High School’s 3rd annual Veteran’s Appreciation Day at Bennett Rink.  Working with the rink management, the Penalty Box Club and the WHHS Hockey team, over $5000 was raised during their game with Darien High School.  An estimated crowd of 700, including over 75 local military veterans attended.  Earlier that week, the hockey team visited the V.A. COMMUNITY EVENTS

The annual Oyster River Energy Christmas party was held Monday, December 16th at Duffy’s Tavern.  About 130 people attended and donated over 40 grocery bags of non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the West Haven Emergency Assistance Task Force.  In addition, over 200 unwrapped toys were received and will be donated to the West Haven Community House.  The sexy Santa contest winner was Brian Elliott and the Ugly Sweater Contest winner was Cindy Leyerzapf, “and a good time was once again had by all”, according to Oyster River Energy President Ed Granfield.  “We are as always, very grateful to a generous group of friends and family for supporting these wonderful causes.”

Toys for Tots and Newtown

Monday, December 17th, the Oyster River Petroleum staff held a fabulous Christmas party at Duffy’s Tavern.  Over 125 people attended this very festive event featuring both ugly sweater and sexy santa contests.  By the end of the evening over 300 unwrapped toys were collected by the U.S. Marines for the Toys for Tots program.  In addition over $700 was collected from the bar tips and donated to the Newtown Victims Fund.  A special thanks go out to Chris Walsh from Duffys, and O.R.P. staffers Lauren Golde-Paone and Teresa Piscitelli, for making this event a success!

FOOD DRIVE FOR W.H.E.A.T.

Monday, August 20th, company President Ed Granfield hosted a surprise birthday party for his lovely bride Anne at Duffy’s Tavern.   Over 100 people attended the invitation only event.  Admission was a bag of non-perishable food items for W.H.E.A.T.  The event brought in over 130 bags and boxes of food that were received and loaded onto a 14 ft. U-haul truck by Ed’s son Danny and is friends Jeff Norton, Callan McKeon, Evan Dupee, and Liz Tommanio.  In addition, over $500 was raised for the West Haven Emergency Assistance Task Force, which serves West Haven’s neediest citizens during difficult times.

Veteran’s Day at Bennett Rink

Monday, February 27, 2012, the employees of Oyster River Petroleum, working with the West Haven High School Hockey Team, raised over $4000 for V.A. Charters during their game against Fermi High School from Enfield.  Over 100 local military veterans attended, free of charge, including some WWII patients currently residing at the V.A.  The West Haven players wore military style jerseys and the event was supported by the United States Coast Guard Color Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve 102nd Unit Band.

V.A. Charters takes wounded war vets on fishing trips out on Long Island Sound.  All in all, over 500 people attended the game, won by West Haven.
